Dog Getting A Flea Treatment

This is the time of year that Big Blue Bug Solutions receives calls that sound something like this “My groomer just called and said that my dog is infested with fleas, we are treating him through our veterinarian, but they said we would need to have our house treated as well. Can you help?” And the answer is, of course - yes! Big Blue Bug Solutions can help to get rid of the flea infestation in your home and make sure that it doesn't come back!

Before we tell you how we can help, we want to provide you with a little background info about fleas. Fleas are parasitic pests that feed on the blood of warm blooded animals. They are very tiny, but can jump very high (8 inch vertical jump); they are a brownish-red color and have a hard flat body, making them almost impossible to squish. And while it is not the only way, one of the most common ways that fleas are introduced into your home is on your dog or other pets - cats are just as guilty!

Once inside your home, fleas feed on your pets (and may even bite you from time to time), mate, and produce eggs. These eggs roll into the cracks and crevices of carpets, furniture and get underneath baseboards. Inside of houses where the temperature remains fairly consistent, they mate year-round increasing their numbers and nuisance status. The only way to get rid of them is to eliminate all the adults, larvae, and eggs that are hiding and residing in your home.

To take care of a flea problem in your house we need to work together! You need to provide Fido and any other pets living in your home with flea treatment/preventative, and Big Blue can take care of the rest by treating your home. Big Blue Bug Solutions can get rid of fleas from your home through our Home Owner’s Policy (HOP).

The HOP residential pest control program provides services to get rid of your current infestation with fleas, and then continues with services throughout the rest of the year to prevent future flea and other common pest problems. Also, choosing HOP will give you even more peace of mind when it comes to pest problems because if a problem comes up between our three yearly visits we will come back to you and treat for free!

Along with putting into place a year-round pest control program and treating your dog for fleas there are some other things that you can do to help win the war against fleas. Some flea prevention tips from the pros at Big Blue Bug Solutions include:

  • Regularly inspecting all pets for fleas.

  • Washing your pets bedding on a routine basis.

  • Making sure to regularly vacuum and wash floors and carpets.

  • Try to keep pets off of furniture or your beds. However, if you just can’t give up snuggling Fido, routinely vacuum furniture and washing your bedding.

  • Deter wild animals from your property that may be introducing fleas to it and don’t feed squirrels or deer. Yep, it’s best to take down bird feeders, or place them at the edge of your property.
