squirrel looking for food

Squirrels are fun to watch running around outside or jumping from tree to tree. Their bushy tails and quick movements keep us entertained. Although they are cute and seem innocent, squirrels can wreak havoc on your property if left unattended. They cause problems both indoors and out and can be dangerous if you try to remove the on your own. If you know or suspect that squirrels may be damaging your property, here’s what may be going on.

Many Shrewsbury residents and people everywhere are frustrated with squirrels outdoors. This is their natural habitat and it is difficult to get rid of them. Squirrels like to stay in the same place once they find a safe area to live with access to food. Many squirrels eat the food in bird feeders put out by residents. This can be frustrating for residents paying to put out bird seed. Seeing a fat, bushy squirrel at the bird feeder instead of a colorful bird is annoying. Squirrels also like to eat food grown in the garden, essentially destroying it in the process.

If squirrels get into your home, they can cause serious problems. The main place squirrels like to live is in the attic. They get in through vents or cracks and destroy what’s inside. Squirrels in the attic love to make nests inside your insulation. This leaves it damaged and ineffective. They also leave behind feces and urine that can leave things smelling bad and have the potential to make you sick. Most damaging is the chewing that squirrels do in the attic. Some favorites are the wood beams, PVC pipes, and electrical wires. A chewed pipe can burst and lead to water damage and a chewed electrical cord can lead to a fire. These are serious problems that squirrels can cause and therefore squirrels must be removed.

If you have squirrels damaging your property, Big Blue Bug Solutions is here to help. Squirrels must be trapped live and then moved or relocated. This is dangerous to do on your own as squirrels can be very aggressive, especially if there are babies present. Squirrels carry a risk of transmitting rabies and should only be handled by a professional. Big Blue Bug Solutions will help get them out of your home quickly and safely, saving you both time and money.
